It is a lonely existence for the princess who only get to socialize with other children once a year and this on her birthday. Then it becomes a lot of games and entertainment. She could not know that when she threw her white roses to the ugly dwarf, he thought that she was in love with him.
The fear and amazement as he then felt when he discovered his reflection in the mirror inside the castle is great. Then he understands that the princess only been amused by his ugliness. This is the climax of the story. The poor dwarf which afterwards dies of a broken heart.

I thought the story wasn't interesting until the dwarf discovered the mirror. But then it became a masterpiece.
