The River Girl is the story of Isis, adopted daughter of father Thames, and her love for a young poet. It is a work of spelbinding fluence, flavoured with the astingent satire for which its author is celebrated.

Wendy Cope's first collection of poems, Making Cocoa for Kingsley Amis, took her straight into the national bestseller lists.

This is the first time she has worked with Nicholas Garland, whose vivid brush drawings perfectly capture the mood of the text.

I liked the action but I thought the verses was limping a bit. Some verses sounded good, but others might not. This was the first poetry book I've read written by Wendy Cope and I thought it was interesting to get to know her writing.
I liked Nicholas Garland drawings.
